Safety
Is it safe for my PC?
Crimson only changes Windows and driver settings, never your BIOS, voltages or firmware. It makes a restore point before applying, labels riskier tweaks clearly and doesn't apply them automatically, and every change can be undone.
Can I undo everything?
Yes. Each tweak saves your original setting, so you can turn it off individually, and Restore All puts every changed setting back. A Windows restore point is created before bulk changes as an extra safety net.
Can I get banned?
Crimson doesn't inject into games, hide processes or interact with anti-cheat, and doesn't modify game files. Optional Fortnite presets only change the settings file the game's own menu writes. We're not aware of any ban caused by it, but no third-party tool can guarantee a game publisher's decisions.
Does it turn off Windows Defender or security?
Defender stays on. Core protections like memory integrity, virtualization-based security and CPU mitigations are never changed automatically; those tweaks are manual-only and labelled. The standard One-Click mode doesn't touch security settings. The Maximum mode, which needs Expert Mode, can include two Defender scan settings (a game-folder exclusion and skipping archive scans); you can switch them off afterwards like any other tweak.
Why does my antivirus flag it?
Crimson is new, not code-signed yet, needs administrator rights and changes many settings at once. Some engines use machine-learning guesses and flag that pattern (names like ML.HighConfidence). Compare the SHA-256 on the download page, or check the VirusTotal Behavior tab.
SmartScreen warned me. Is that bad?
It's normal for new apps that aren't widely downloaded or code-signed yet. Click More info → Run anyway.
Performance
How much FPS will I gain?
It depends on your hardware and on what was holding it back: power saving, background apps, drivers, timers. Some PCs gain a lot, some very little, and we don't promise a number. Use the built-in FPS Test before and after to see your own result.
How do I measure fairly?
Same map or replay, same route, same in-game settings. Change one thing at a time and run each test at least three times. Look at 1% lows and frame-time consistency, not just the average.
Does it change my Fortnite graphics settings?
Not on its own. The optimizations work at the Windows and driver level. Optional Fortnite presets exist, and they're only applied if you choose them.
Which PCs does it work on?
Any desktop or laptop with 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Crimson checks your hardware and skips tweaks that don't fit it.
Does it work in other games?
Most tweaks are Windows-wide, so they apply to every game. Fortnite gets extra options, and there are profiles for several competitive games.
Do I need to reinstall Windows?
No. Crimson works on your current Windows installation.
